JohnB, planting those Giant sequoias is so cool. Just think how long those trees will be here on earth. I wonder if anyone else is planting these to help sustain the giant sequoias population?

I planted two of them I got from Arbor Day Foundation and both died. All the other evergreens that I got at the same time are thriving. I will try again. I have a four acre field that I used to mow, but I got tired of seeing that huge green desert, supporting no wildlife. Now I am planting the entire field with different trees to make habitat for the wildlife. There are a few spots where nature has planted little groves as well. Here is a pic of a fellow I captured digitally creeping down the lane. It makes me think my work may be paying off. Bears are unheard of in my area.

Got a few more pics to share here towards the end of summer.

Orchard and Garden wise it was a good year, ate a lot of good food and put away a lot too.

Blackberries...

Love these things - we made 3 batches of blackberry freezer jam, and I put several quarts away in the freezer. My wife makes a blackberry sauce, just basically blackberries, a little sugar and water heated up, and pore it over homemade biscuits... Yum.

Had a fine crop of ambrosia sweet corn this year. Put several quarts away in the freezer...

Also a good crop of strike green bush beans... put a bunch of these away in the freezer too.

From my plum tree... plum freezer jam. This is good stuff !

We also ate a bunch of peaches and made two batches of peach freezer jam.

Last but not least... Maters !!!!

I had 18 tomato plants and we harvested several hundred tomatoes. Still got some of those coming on but the bulk has been harvested and eaten or put away now.
