Hey Guys...

These few early birds survived one morning where the temp at my house got down to 30 degrees. I expect it was a little cooler than that down in the hollow where the wild sim beds are.

Then last night... this morning - I got up and there was about 1/2 inch of snow on the ground.

The low temp was around 35 degrees though... even though the snow stuck to the grass enough to accumulate.

I will check on these 3 leafers again, probably tomorrow... and report back.

I bet they wish they had of stayed down a little longer :-)

I sure am interested in these little early tops and I will be very happy if they do well after the snow dusting very interesting.

Guys,
It would be odd to see ginseng coming up here in this weather. Your ordered seed stock always comes up first but the wild native strain really takes its time about popping up.
Usually your wild strain is one of the latest plants in the forest floor to show itself. It would not surprise me if it didn't come up here until May 1st.

I got out today and checked on those early bird 3 leafers again and found some of them had expired, but some had lived and some were still standing but frost burned...

There were only a very small % up at this point, but one day last week it got down to 30 degrees at my house, probably colder down in the hollow where my wild sim is planted, and then a couple days later it snowed and we had about 1/2 inch accumulation that stayed on the ground for 6-7 hours.

Anyway...

Today I found this \"4\" leafer... and as you can see obviously not happy about the cold weather. I don't think it will make it - bad sign when the leaves start curling up and turning pale.

And I found a few that looked like they have been up several days and may have survived the cold.

I also got some work done in my garden today...

The pic below shows one of my raised beds.. and my broad fork.

That thing has 7 - 10\" tines and does a really good job of breaking up the soil.

About an hour later...

Looking good.

I have potatoes, lettuce (3 kinds), carrots and onions planted now...

In the bed below - that I broke up today - I will be planting yellow and green squash, cukes, watermelons and cantelopes (Mid April)...

Tn,
I plan to check my plantings today. I'm sure by this time next week they will all be stretching up. From the pictures you post it appears you live on a hilltop or a ridge. How many open acres do you have to work with as far as your garden and trees?
