3 leafers up... positive ID today... 11 years 8 months ago #22269

Hey Guys...

On 3/18 I posted on the \"Springtime\" post pics of some really early 3 leafers coming up...

It was hard to tell for sure then if they were actually 3 leafers.

This evening (two days later)... I checked that bed again and found those same two and could tell for sure today they are ginseng plants.

Also found 2 more up in that same bed.

Here are pics of what I found them looking like today.

Next one... this is the one that was all bent over a couple days ago...

Notice that right beside it (just to the left in the pic) there is another one that came up, but looks like the top (leaves) broke off or either something ate it already.

And here is the last one I found today...

All 4 of these are within just a few feet of each other in the same bed.

PS... something I noticed - A couple of days ago the stems were mostly just green. I remembered 3 leafer stems having sort of a red tint to them and I did not see that a couple days ago. But today (just 2 days later) you can see that red tint starting to show up on some of them.

If you see that white crystal looking stuff down in the leaves... that is what is left of the Gypsum I put down Mid Feb..

Tn, Congrats.
You sure have some nice healthy looking seedlings coming up. The stems look very strong indicating a good root start.
It will be awhile for me. It's snowing right now and giving an overnight low of 18 degrees. Just have to tough it out.

I agree Rootman, not sure I have ever seen stems that sturdy and thick on one year old's. Must be some great soil conditions TN.
Great Job!

Thanks Guys...

PS - Nashville TN Weather Forecast for toight is 29 degrees...

These few early birds may be in for a real survival test tonight.

I will see how cold it actually gets and check on them again tomorrow or Friday.

Well... at 5:30 AM... it was 32 degrees on my back porch.

Probably a little cooler down on the hillsides where my wild sim patches are.

They are talking like we might get some snow on Friday (a wintery mix).

Below is my 10 day..

I will check them again in a day or two and see how they are doing.

That's amazing what the small difference in latitude does between you and I,TNhunter. This morning I have 14 at my house. Yesterday, coming home from a job in Kentucky I drove through about 45 minutes of snow. Two hours before that I was working in short sleeves. We are definately having a ol timey March, Winter isn't giving up too easy this year.
