Latt,
You just might as well go ahead and order you a couple of pound and get it over with LOL... I agree though, the forum will be dead through March or April. The only thing I know to talk about is what Iv got goin on with my planting and in a few weeks I won't have that. Correction, I hope Im done in a few weeks.

Awesome rows....very clean woods also, how long did it take you to get it looking like that?

Latt,

You do make some impressive beds (nice and large and long).. and have some bueatiful woods there too.

I went thru some of my first year planting bed pictures and pulled some out to post.

Here is the first bed I made (my seed producing bed).

This pic shows it near the end of the bed construction phase. I laid strips of gypsum board over the bed and the seng roots would be planted in between those strips. That way over the next few years that gypsum board would break down and continuously add calcium to the soil. I had already put into that bed, 6 - 5 gal buckets of rock chip filled soil from one of the best ginseng growing hollows I know of, and also added some gypsum, bonemeal, epson salt, and a couple hundred pounds of composted peat.

Below is what it looked like after applying the gypsum board.

Now that was a before picture... and below is an after picture...

After I rounded up and planted 44 nice wild roots in that bed.

Here is a pic of the first wild-sim bed I planted (hankins style)... man that was a lot of work.

The bed was 100' long and I dug 4 trenches (400' of trenches) for the seed.

It took forever... and about wore me out... but the bed has done well.

The next 3 pics show some of my first year (fall of 2010) wild sim plantings (rake and scatter).

Most of my early beds were kept narrow - in the 4' wide range but some were 50-60-70 even out to 100' long.

One last bed to show during the bed prep stage...

I like planting along old logs.

That bed in that last pic, was planted along side a old hickory log in the fall of 2010.

This past summer (May 2012) below is what the bed looked like.
