TOPIC: 5 Prong up - 2 year old wild-sim, and wild patch

5 Prong up - 2 year old wild-sim, and wild patch 12 years 6 months ago #17590

Morning Guys...

Absolutely BUEATIFUL morning here in Middle TN. I got out this moring and checked out some of my wild simulated plantings, 2 year old beds and some new plantings from last fall. All looking pretty good at this point.

I also made the treck down to the spot where I planted that 5 prong (root that Billy sent me last fall) and glad to report that it is up, and it does have 5 prongs this year. So this morning was a first for me. I have never seen a 5 prong before, but I can't say that no more.

I also made a couple of short video's of a couple of my 2 year old beds and will upload those to youtube soon and post a link back her later on.

For now - here are a few pics of a few of my 2 year old beds.

These babies had a hard year last year, with the bad heat/drought we had. Many of them died before Aug 1, and all were dead by Mid August.

Glad to see they came back and many of them managed to make 2 prongs this year.

I did not look over all my 2 year old beds, but in what I have looked at - I did not see any little 3 prongs.

Got fooled a couple times where a 2 prong and a big 3 leafer where growing right together, but when I checked closer could tell it was not really a lil 3 prong.

I did find some really nice 2 prongs - like the one below.

I bet it was 6-7\" tall.

I also took a hike down to where I planted that nice 2 oz root that Billy sent me (was a 5 prong top last year) and found it to be up finally.

I think there was a little bud damage on it, it looked black on the tip of the bud before planting.

But it did come up this year. It looks like the leaves did not fully form, but all 5 prongs are there and it has a nice flower spike developing now.

Here is what it looked like from a distance. (center of pic).

Now here is one more from the side. It is a little blurry, but man that hillside is steep and I was sort of risking my life getting down there close to make these pics. Footing was not stable at all.

One reason I picked such a steep place to put it was to hopefully keep deer from browsing it.

I bet next spring after it has had time to adjust to it's new location the leaves and stems will look much more normal.

Will be interesting to see if it comes back a 5 prong agian next spring.

Good Lord willing and if I am still able to walk down there, I will be sure and post some pics next spring. Will post more later this year too as I check it for berries later on.

PS - I will post those youtube vids soon and come back her and post a link to them.

Later !

Almost forgot this one.

Here is one more pic of a patch of wild stuff I have been stewarding down in that area not far from where the 5 prong is planted.

Nice little patch. One of those 3 prongs is getting to be decent size now. I will collect the berries off them this fall and plant them in that location.

Thanks BCastle..

PS - one of the youtube vids is uploaded and ready to view now.

The other one is uploading now. I will post a link to it later today.

Got to go work in the yard and garden some now, so will be out of pocket a little while.
