Whitjr,
NICE!!!! Great looking clearing and planting site.

Yes they tend to thin themselves and then some. As long as they have good airflow they should be less inclined to get disease in my opinion. So if you can keep the weeds down as it appears you have already done, then I bet you will be good to go.

I found a small patch of wild sang Sunday with about ten or so 3 prongs in the 6 to 8 year range. They were all within a 2 x 2 foot area with no sign of disease. But there were not many weeds growing around them either.

On a side note, I was mushroom hunting at a different woods and went to check up on a few 4 prongs that I had been watching grow for some years now. The \"Garlic Mustard\" now 4 foot tall, had completely choked out the area and I could not find the seng plants. I know they are in there so I just left because I didn't want to accidentally step on them.

Good luck fellas. Keep the seng pics coming.

Latt- thanks for the positive comments.

I'm heading back up to the mountains this weekend. Going to work in the patches and actually do a variety of \"chores\" that need doin' there.

Some of the rhododendron is attempting to come back, so it's machete time with them! I want to reduce the piles of cut lap some w/ c-saw. Going to take another batch of soil samples. Take more photos as well.

Then I'm going to spray a foliar application of my Nutri-grow solution. the stuff seems to really work on all kinds of plants. You should see my garden! Anyway, the maker claims that this stuff reduces the need for the sprays that combat detrimental micro-organisms. And, at the same time, improves the micro-nutrients found with the soil. This is supposed to affect the soil's pH as well, by moving the number towards a more median number. My patches soil pH could use a boost in places. this product is a seaweed deritive, thereby is organic!

Last, going to mark off the next acre to put in... and am planning on cutting this patch all in one day, with some college students I'm going to hire. It'll be lot of work, however worht it. I was holding off on this part until I saw if the ground I had already prepared was viable.

this first one will give you a sense of the slope. the actual size of this patch is a log bigger. We've cleared about 4/5th of an acre on this hillside. this is the central stretch of it. That's me spraying the Agri-Grow solution as a foliar spray.
