Chieftain, I would bet those were seeds gathered and buried by a mouse or two that were stocking up for the winter. Then they forgot about them and then the seeds germinated. Just my opinion.

thanks Latt.thats the most plausible answer ive heard..there is a lot of chipmunks[a rat with stripes ]in that woods..if I see that chipmunk I will thank him..conditions must of have been perfect...he sure got a great germination..
The chipmunk idea makes sense but I wonder how far they will travel to get that many seeds? Chief said the closest plant that he knew of was 500 yards away. Maybe a couple years ago there were a couple patches of seng close by that had a lot of berries and someone dug them since then?
