TOPIC: Any new laws on Ginseng this year?

I was just wondering if anyone has heard of any new laws this season? I have heard some rumors but cant find any documentation for NC.Seems like they don't let us know about them until they have been in effect.

I do know of one new law this year but is for Virginia there ginseng season opens up September the 1st now as TN and KY does so in the past three seasons starting with KY digging season changed from august 15th to Sept 1st then TN last season and VA: this season.

I think PA has revised their start date to Sept 1., Maryland ban harvests on all state forest lands, NC cut the number of harvest permits for Pisgah and Nantahala National Forests by 75% and cut the harvest season to 2 weeks (Sept. 1-15).

will have to wait and see how the change in laws will have on the market, may be a year to hold out for a bit to see what happens

Yup, NC is only giving out 165 or so permits for the entire state. Only a 2 week season as well. Permits are given by lottery. My buddy got one, but not i, so hopefully my private land connections will do ok. If you get busted digging you are looking at prison time and a nice $5k or so fine. Yup, not jail, prison. Also, plain clothes officers and Feds posing as buyers will be out there. Way to go, North Carolina. Firing teachers by the thousands, but funding a fricking Ginseng bust program. Priorities.

Where did you get this information? I could not find anything on the web about it.
But it does sound like something nc would do.

NC is ridiculous. They need to get the responsible diggers out there to help the ginseng along by ensuring every berry is planted. Oh well. Guess this year I will focus planting on my land. I'm gonna turn it up planting at least 1800 seeds hopefully getting a decent germination rate.

There is a loose ginseng growers association forming here in NC, I've only just heard a bit about it.

Perhaps it would be useful for those of us to contact the NC Dept of Ag, either by web or phone to voice our concerns?
