I started early this morning not sure where I was even gonna hunt, as I pretty much figured I'd already hit every spot I knew. I came across a very steep ridge that actually splits in to two hollows. I had hunted this ridge before, but had only gone up about half way not sure if I wanted to climb the full trip. Well, considering it's getting towards the end of season I put myself in beast mode and went all the way to the top. I've finally come to the conclusion that if you wanna get into some of the older and bigger ginseng you gotta put yourself in places most won't go. I spent most of the day on this steep ridge and literally pulled 20oz of big ole roots just from skirting the top. I started down about 5 o'clock and looked across the hollow and about 100 yards or so a big momma bear with her cub was staring at me. I clapped my hands and they scurried up the mountain. Such an awesome end to the day! It then crossed my mind how many ridges I had hunted without going the full trip to the top. Hmmm, not sure If I have the energy left this season, lol. Nevertheless, I'll never forget today's hunt.
