05-12-2011 seed bed plants and other stuff growing on... 13 years 11 months ago #9865

Hey Guys,

It has been a week or two since I checked out my seed producing bed and I checked it out this evening and took a few pics.

I also took a few pics of other stuff I have growing around the yard/garden.

TNhunter

First here is a pic of the seed producing bed. Funny how some of the plants in the same bed are darker green than others, but they are all looking really good at this point.

PS we have had several days (above 90 degrees) at this point but no real dry spells yet.

Sorry about this next pic being out of focus - camera would not cooperate on this one, but wanted you to see the berry stem on one of those KY mountain root/plants I got from Billy.

It is about 3\" long already.

Even though the pic is a bit blurry you can still make it out.

I did manage to get a good clear up close pic of what the flower spike looks like now...

If all of those make berries - looks like around 50 to me.

Now here is some other stuff I have growing around the yard/garden.

Classicfur - I have been picking snap peas all week and just yesterday evening I picked all I could find and this evening there are a bunch more and they are already good sized.

It's hard to believe how fast they develop. In 24 hours they grow to about 2-3 inches long.

I noticed a wild muscadine vine growing near the edge of the yard a few years ago and built a trellis for it to grow on and man it is loaded with little fruit/flower clusters this year. Hope those all tune into dimes this fall - man they are sure some good eating.

My kids and I eat em by the hand fulls...

My seedless concord grape vine is covered in fruit/flower clusters this year. I counted near 100 clusters on this one grape vine.

TNhunter,

Looks like everything is growing well this year. Little early for vegtables yet, up here in upstate NY. The truck read 32 on Tuesday at 4:30am when I pulled in to my turkey hunting/ginseng prospecting spot. Lots of turkeys gobbling but no luck, even better though found some nice plants for this fall!

sengfever,

Yep - things are moving right along here growing wise.

It has not been down to 32 here since back in Feb.

We did have a cold wet spell a week or so ago - it got down to around 40 here about 3 nights in a row.

The sweet corn and melons I had up (just very small sprouts) did not like that at all - turned yellow. I had to replant them this week.

Wild Turkeys are one of my favorite things to harvest in the spring - some real good eating.

I had to run out for a family birthday get together earlier and had a few other pics to post.

Here they are - a few more things I grow...

I have a row of Ilinni Blackberries - usually get a few gallons off these few bushes.

Some are turning red already.

I usually get 100-150 nice peaches off this tree...

They are looking good this year.

Got a few tomatoes out this week as well.

Now that is one of my favorite things from the garden - a big ole red ripe home grown mater :-)

Will have to wait a while for those. That late cold spell has me getting them out in the garden a couple weeks later than ususal.

Hope everyting is growing well where you folks are - if it's too cold for you northern folks to be growing yet - this will at least give you someting to look forward too.

Have a good end of the week !
