TOPIC: does ginseng grow near walnut trees?

I have about a 1/2 acre walnut grove planted in rows. Walnuts produce a toxin to keep other plants away. Will ginseng gow within these rows?

not sure, but I have dug sang around walnuts...

i have dug it near walnut trees, but its not often.


edit: the walnut trees will pay better than the ginseng will.

I got a couple of nice walnut's on my property...one real nice one's ....a little over 4 foot through at the butt.38 foot to the first limb and straight as a gun barrel. no cat face's on it either...it stand's in the bottom of a big holler.it really had to reach for the sunlight it's hole life.....

if you cut it/have it cut, and its good (no defects, mineral, or rot) i wouldnt sell it for less than $5bf (board foot). for one that straight, that big, and that long, prolly get $8 bf.

we sold one last year (veneer walnut) that was 24 inches (measured at the small end) 16 ft long. 400 bf total brought 2000 dollars.

just for comparison, my little office scale shows 30 inch diameter x 16 ft length at 676 bf. multiply that by 5 = 3380 dollars.

from what your decsribing, you have a 10,000 tree growing in the bottom of the holler (if its good).
