South Dakota seems like it might be a little bit hot and dry for ginseng. However, based on your post, let me say that first there are second chances in the season...only one flower and seed head -it either makes it or it doesn't. Next, if the berries are red, plant them. I'm sure they will be ok. If they are shriveled up green, that might be a problem greater than the loss of a couple seeds.
