Thanks TNhunter. I think the 3 leaf or seedling stage is the toughest to spot. I have some areas that are even thicker with vegetation, and perhaps I should take some more challenging pictures there.
By the way, I planted some of my seeds in the exact opposite setting where it is clearly too-shady, and my plan in those locations is to fell a tree or two as needed to keep it happy. I don't know whether this is a good idea or a bad idea, but I guess we'll see.
In a few other areas I have a problem of having planted too many seeds and in some spots about 8 or 9 seedlings have come up in a small area instead of 3 or 4. I don't know whether I mis-counted or Mike Lee's seed was extra fertile, but anyway, I am trying to figure out whether to thin them and try to transplant at this stage or whether just to let nature take its course. (My motto for my flower beds around my house is that only the strongest will survive, so I'm thinking maybe this should apply to my ginseng as well).
