There are a lot of factors to picking a site. Usually (but not necessarily) a North- East facing slope. Look for other plants in the area such as, bloodroot, snake root, dolls eye, trillium, Christmas fern. The site should have between 50 -80% shade but, there has to be plant life on the forest floor. If it is too dark for other things, it's too dark for sang. It needs shade but, it also needs sunlight. Check with OSU for more information. If they do not have what you need look up PADCNR and do a search for ginseng on their site. They have a lot of information. Anything written by Eric Burkhart is good info.
