Many thanks to the NC Ag dept for free sampling...however after 12/01/13 thru 3/-1/14 there is a fee of $4.- per sample.. austerity measures here in NC to thank for that.... was entirely free all year until just this month.
Anyway, got analysis back on my thrd patch. As well as P1. Still waiting on the soils analysis on P2. It's starting out almost exactly as P1 and P2, with very low pH's [in the 3.8 range] and very low Ca's [in the 10% range].
I have adjusted the P1 upwards using an entirely organic approach, gypsum, lime, seaweed detivitaves. P1 has pH's ranging in 4.8 - 6.1 range, and I'm thinking this is good. Ca's are boosted to the 60% range most areas of the patch. Haven't added any lime to this patch for a year; just the other soil boosts.
Adding 40 lb bags of linme and gypsum is labor intensive, as well as using a 4 gal sprayer for the seaweed stuff. Hopefully, the results will be worth it. I feel like I need one leg shorter than the other after a full day doing this stuff....
It'd be really nice to grow something like that photo Latt posted! Am holding my breath on that one....
