TOPIC: Transplanting roots

Transplanting roots 11 years 2 months ago #23795

If I can't get all my roots for transplanting in the ground would it be ok to store them in the fridge in a zip lock bag with a damp piece of news paper for a few days?

Hunter, they should be fine like that. Just don't get the newspaper too wet. Just slightly damp. I store mine in a dark room in my basement where it stays fairly cool (usually around 65 degrees or just a little below that, but I have stored some in the crisper drawer of the fridge for a few days before, and they did ok.

I do recommend getting them in the ground as soon as possible though..

I have to agree with 5prong here. It is better to plant them as soon as you can. But, I would much rather see them in a cool (basement) rather than cold (fridge) situation. Also, it is better to store them drier rather than wetter. Some of the longest lasting and best keeping roots I've had were held in what was originally damp peat...but was bone dry nearly a year later when I found them again...in my basement ;)
