I purchased a 1/2 pound of Stratified Seeds from Wildgrown in the fall of 2011, kept them refrigerated until the fall of 2012, then planted most of them (maybe 100 inserted by hand and close to 2,900 by broadcasting) in October 2012. By keeping the seeds refrigerated for a whole year, this allowed them to go through their' normal 18 months of dormancy before germination! When I checked on some of the seeds planted on Monday, I was pleasantly surprised that most of the seeds that I planted down low in a somewhat flat part of the head of a hollow, had germinated and came up. About 50 yards further up, plants from the seeds, were pretty sparse and I did not check any higher as I was already beat from 6 hours of hiking and climbing ridges. I will check back in two or three weeks and hopefully the diggable plants I found this year that were not up last year (not from the seeds I planted), will have ripe berries as almost all of the diggable plants that I found, still had mostly green berries in their' seed pods. While there, I will climb to the top of the hollow and both ridges to check on my plantings from last year. I am also hoping that many of the seeds that did not produce plants this year, will finally do so next year!
