TOPIC: List of eBay sellers & their states selling illegally dug ginseng

I'm not sure how to report this so maybe someone here does, below is a list of ebay sellers that are selling fresh dug ginseng right now and the states they are in.

imda1in2008 Steeles Tavern, Virginia

xman-x Grafton, Illinois

dtrapperman Mexico, New York (this guy has mutliple, from Adirondack Mountain)

austinjerryl Pearisberg, Virginia

2funeerenee Arnot, Pennsylvania (this guy has mutliple, one over 4lbs. freshly dug)

4181951 West Palm Beach, Florida

That is all that I found on there actively selling at this moment, but if you look at completed/sold listings, there are alot more.

If people think they can dig and sell out of season on ebay and get a fair price that is going to hurt diggers in many ways. For one, it makes it harder for us to find it in season, it endagers the species even more than it already is, and it could eventually cause the market value to drop because the people/corporations buying it to export overseas won't want to pay top dollar if they can get it cheaper, that's just common business practice. If this continues then ebay will become a buyer's haven and we will see the value drop.

I hate to sound like a snitch, but these people need to be stopped, fined, and jailed in my opinion. Let me catch someone digging in one of my patches out of season, I wouldn't kill them but I would sure make sure they couldn't get away .

I feel the same way you do, but you may want to do some research on the names you bring up from ebay. I have bought seed from wildspiritginseng(with great results) Fred is doing nothing illegal. He is just showing plants from his own seed growing in pots. The pic you see is for seed sale not roots. Again, I think its great these crooks are being called out, but just make sure you don't ruin someone's livelihood.

Yes I agree, sorry about that, went back and looked at his auctions and you are correct. Will remove his name from that list.

I work on ebay everyday so it only takes me a minute to check for others doing this, if someone on here knows how or wants to help in trying to stop these people then let me know and I will gladly update information as needed.

Also, if we knew charges would be brought against them, I would have no problems buying a small auction just so I can get the full name and address of the seller if needed.

Thanks! I agree on your statement. I have also contacted NYSDEC and they are aware, heck they even know one gentleman's name, but I believe they told me they would have to catch them picking it to proceed with charges.
With only select few Conservation Officers per county her in NY, its tough, with all other game violations to catch these people. And seeing all the Adirondack ginseng being sold on ebay makes me sick. I have even questioned them, but never get a response. They know they are wrong.

Sorry bud, but I do not work for ebay. I'm a machinist by trade. Not sure if maybe you misunderstood me?

nysdec will not go after them ,that tells me if a guy gets his patch stolen they will do nothing about it ,if they can say we have to catch them digging,overpaid fools in my mind.poacher will carry on like always,anyone want to buy some ginseng?LOL

Think he may have been referring to me, I said I work on ebay, I don't work for them, sorry should have been a little more clear about that. I run my own business and we do alot of sales on ebay. I have contacted ebay though and even with emailing them a copy of the state laws their reply is that they basically can't or won't do anything about it until criminal charges are brought against the sellers.

I've already been checking my patches just in case, half tempted to mark them with gps and trim the tops off except for the berry pods. Have had to do that in the past, doesn't work perfectly but sure makes it hard for poachers to find when all there is is a stem and a berry pod with no leaves.

Ginseng hunters can spot a wad of red berries from a long distance away. I doubt taking the leaves off will do anything to prevent the poachers IMHO.

This is not just a problem with illegal sales of Ginseng on eBay specifically! This spring and maybe only 10 days after most of the Wild Ginseng plants had come up in the mountains, I noticed Ads on Craigslist where folks were selling green and dried Ginseng. It is possible that some of these folks were with Law Enforcement and trying to bust people selling and buying Ginseng illegally but I am sure that some were non-Law Enforcement and they were really selling Ginseng.
