TOPIC: Seedbed, berries and frogging

Seedbed, berries and frogging 11 years 3 months ago #23247

Morning Folks...

The extra nice weather continues down here. It has been a really good year for all things green and growing.

I have put all my sweet corn up now and picked the last 100 or so peaches from my last peach tree to produce. We have had blackberries galore and here at the end of July actually still have some red blackberries. It's been a great growing season this year.

If every year was like this we could grow seng in more locations, higher on the hill, and it would do fine.

I got out and took a few pics of my seed producing bed and everything there is looking real good. Lots of berry wads and some still forming. Some tripple berries, plants still looking really healthy.

First a pic of my seed producing bed..

Next will show off some close up's of berry pods...

Here is a close up of one of those that I got from Billy (TALL flower spike).

Next a shot of a really nice (local root) 4 pronger.

Again my local roots have much shorter flower spikes (down below the leaves) so on this one I took a shot from down below leaf/top level.

Notice the berry pod on this one has a lower cluster of berries and a short stem and then a cluster on top - sort of a double decker. Cool !

On more berry wad pic.

Sorry but this one did not hardly focus well enough. A bit blurry.

But this plant, year after year, sets several berries that have 3 seeds (notice the 3 lobe berries).

One final pic for this fine Sunday moning...

Last night I took my boy Cole (and my daughter Catherine) frog gigging...

It is a little late in the year for that (they were not sounding off much) and were mostly up on the bank instead of down at the waters edge.

Going to have a fine dinner soon off these fine legs.

Below are a couple of the best we got.

Hope you all are having a great growing season, and looking forward to opening day.

Based on what I am seeing here around my house, I think the wild plants will have made extra berries this year and a lot of seng should have survived well this year.
