TOPIC: Weeding and thinning the first year?

Weeding and thinning the first year? 11 years 6 months ago #22558

So my l'ill seng babies are popping up and I'm wondering what now? Can I/ should kill the weeds around the? Should I pull or use a wand covered in weed killer and take out any of a certain height? Would weeding after planting mean its no longer a wild simulated patch? Should I rake back leaves to encourage greater emergance.... Or should I just let be and go fishing? Also, I noticed some plants ended up pretty close together....should I thin them now, wait till later in the summer, or weight untill next year? What are the chances of the ones I thin making it after being replanted?

I wouldn't thin or transplant them till next fall 2014. You can wait until next spring and spray for weeds prior to the ginseng coming up. Hand weeding is effective depending on the size of the planting. I do not spray but would if I could.

Like Latt advised.. at this point, leave 'em be to establish themselves. IMHO- Weeding later, thinning later. Be happy you have what's up! Take photos for us here, and share!

If you just GOTTA DO SOMETHIN', then plan for next year.

Here's a quote for someone on the board, I forget who... \"Growing 'sang teaches you patience.\"
