I think the tricky part may be getting good seed this late in the year.
Depends on if it has been stored properly all winter or not.
I had bad experience with seed planted in Jan, Feb 2010 - very poor germination (like only 1-2%) and several others had similar experience that year.
At that time I did not know to split the seed open and check for proper embryo growth. Now I do...
If you get good seed, there should be good embryo development - especially if you are getting it in spring like this. Be sure and split a few samples open, make sure it is nice and white, and you can see the little embryo, and at this time of year I would expect lots of tails, with many being 1/4\" long or so.
If you find that, I expect you will do OK.
Just be very careful planting them and don't break those little root starts off.
Below is a pic of some seed showing nicely developed embryo.
The embryo runs 75-80% of the width of the seed. These did not have tails but this seed was split back in November. By spring they should be cracked and smiling with many having tails.
Good Luck !
