TOPIC: Latest report and photos of the mountain patch

Well, last weekend, I was up getting ready to clear more rhodo in the woods there. I was concerned about the effect of the recent heat wave and rainfall, just like everyone else has been! Due to family illness's I had to take care of, I hadn't been to this patch in 6 weeks.

I was pleasantly surprized [translate: doing the happy dance] at the overall good condition of the planting there. It seems that there's been adequite rainfall, and very few effects from heat.

all pics posted here are taken just after the rain stopped. It was really quite a downpour, there's shiney patches on leaves that are rain on the leaves. 1st photo is some 3-leafers, this year's emergance.

Next one is several more of the 3-leafers. funny spots are rain on the leaves.

The three identical photos above are due to some glitch in the photo import of our favorite website... don't know why this happened.

All these photos were taken my my cellphone camera. I left my good camera at home!

I found a few 3-leafers that had been tromped on by deer, in one of the uppermost beds. there's a pretty good trail there, and this is one that got it's stem broken by a careless deer. Must have been just before I got in there, as the leafs were still very fresh, not wilted. I'm holding it , and my glove size is 11, to give you a perspective.

I ate it.

These are typical of the beds up there. I plan on transplanting the one that are too close next year, or the year after. Look closely in the middle bottom, there's one that has 4 leafs.

Another bed a bit more up the hill... just a small section of it. More than a few of these are candidates for transplanting.

This one of few. the proud, the \"wish-there-were-more\" from last year's plantings. Again, please remember that it had just rained, and the spots on the leaves are reflections of that rain from my cheap camera in the phone. The orange there is a flag I put in to mark the location of it, last year.

Last one is another of last year's sprouts, with a nice 5-leaf growth. the little 3-leafer next to it doesen't look too good. I inspected it, and found the stem had broken... more deer damage! It was just barely hanging on... and I ate it.

Leaves are a bit salad-like, like old romaine lettuce; and the stem was a bit bitter.
