TOPIC: Lot of under growth this year

Lot of under growth this year 12 years 5 months ago #17805

There is really a lot of under growth due to the hot weather we had early in the year. Then the freeze delayed the trees from leafing out to block the sun.
How is it in your neck of the woods? It's like a jungle here but the mature ginseng has really come up good and looks like a bumper crop of seeds in the wild.

I have a lot of maple seedings coming up in amongst my beds. some beds are worse than others. I started weeding, however am going to leave them for a while before I do that.

there are rhododendron coming off the bases of where I cut them down. I'm going to leave that stuff right there until the fall for the deer to browse on. Maybe the deer will leave my 3-leafers alone! the deer ate the little rodo sprouts during the winter months.

It's like that around here too Rootman. I took a stroll this afternoon and looked at a few of the wild patches that I know. A couple of those areas were so thick with jewelweed that I could barelely find sang plants even though I knew exactly where they were. It was like that around here last year too, but maybe not quite so bad. The last 2 years have had the warmest months of March that I can ever remember and that undergrowth has gotten a head start for sure.

I agree. There is a ton of undergrowth this year compared to most years. Of course, this is the time of year when it is always the heaviest too.
