TOPIC: Surprise in the wild sim patch

Re:Surprise in the wild sim patch 12 years 5 months ago #17725

Thank you for the kind words Hugh. The soil in this area is actually super fertile and rich in calcium. Although, it lacked the proper ph. I added sulpher to drop the ph to a more pleasing level for ginseng. That's pretty much it other than a spray schedule I stick to up until August and trying to keep any pests at bay through out the growing season.

Hillhopper,
All I can say is AMAZING! Your 2 year old's are larger and nicer than most of my 3 year old beds.
Nice job,
Latt

Thanks fellas!
Take it for what you may but I have a piece of info ill share with yall that I have assumed for a couple of years but I believe I found confirmation yesterday... I always figured ground temp had a lot to do with disease, yesterday I discovered two plants that were infected with root rot. It was at the very bottom of a bed and just below the two plants sunlight will hit there for a little while longer than need be. The mulch had blown off that spot which allowed the ground to heat up and in turn, I believe, promoted the disease. I dug the two plants and disinfected the area afterwards. In my opinion, its an indicator of how much mulch is important,if for no other reason than to control ground temp in less than ideal situations.

Hillhopper,
I noticed how dark green your plants are too. I think thick dark leaf plants are an indication of plants that are getting what they need. I am sure we all have seen the difference in the wild. Sometimes the sang leaves are thin and almost a lime green. Yet sometimes in some woods the leaves are thicker and firmer to the touch, and a much darker green.
Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out which of the two are getting all the nutrients and minerals they need.
I think healthy plant tops lead to healthy roots.

I agree Latt. A Large, healthy top promotes more photosynthesis which helps grow the root. Iv seen plants grow in ridiculous places and the tops showed the stress it was under as well but.... I guess that is really what the end consumer in China wants. I just don't have the 40 years to grow a crop that way lol.

I guess it boils down to the 3 main things.
proper shade,
good soil,
and good drainage can't be stressed enough.
