As a peach grower for many years I always sweated this time of the year, especially when it was unusually warm in late winter. I watched $50,000-$60,000 disappear over night on more than one occasion and after looking at the weather forecast for tomorrow night here in East Tn. it brought back some old memories. The temperature they are forecasting for East Tn. is 24 degrees and as far as Spartanburg, S.C. they are predicting 27 degrees. We are just beginning to have a few blooms to open here , but they are in full bloom anywhere south of us. That is not a fun day for a fruit grower. Since I only grow peaches on a small scale now and don't rely on them for an annual income it is not a big thing for me. However, if you have a large planting of Ginseng and some of it is bursting through the leaf litter, it could be a problem if a hard freeze catches it in the bend. I will just say for those of you anywhere close to me or south of here, you might want to take a look at your patches and if anything is showing through the leaves, get it lightly covered tomorrow.Good luck to all of you in harms way.
