TOPIC: Weekend work in your patch?

Weekend work in your patch? 12 years 8 months ago #16942

Me: Going up to the mountains and working on the patch there. Maybe tomorrow am early... weather here will dictate.

Perhaps it'll be too early to see any little fellers up yet, however there's other work I need to do there. Weeding, and spraying liq calcium from the Agri-grow people. I'd like to get that sprayed before the little guys emerge.

Will post photos later.

Got out early this morning and spread the Calcium Nitrate on my woodland patches around the house. I hear thunder close by:cheer:

Hugh,Maybe it got rained in before the wind blew it to the Atlantic lol. Come to think of it, I wont have a piece of straw left on that hillside if the wind comes out of the north like it has the south west all day. It's blowing like crazy here with warnings of tornadoes most likely on the way.

Hillhopper, hopefully the rain will come first and lock down your straw before the wind hits.

I hope all of you fellas and your families are safe and sound and the high winds and tornadoes missed you all.

Latt,
Thanks for the concern. We faired pretty well where I live, (Hamblen County). Just about 40 miles away there was a reported tornado moving toward the Smokies, but I think the damage was nil. Last year was really bad. We lost 13 people in one of my fishing areas and close to some of my plantings. The season is just getting started here and I hope we don't have a replay of last year. Hill, I hope you and TN made it safely through the night.

Thanks for the concern as well fellas. No harm done here, the worst of it all past just a couple miles south of me. Checked the plantings this morning and no harm done there either, I also checked the opposite side of the ridge out of curiosity and not a leaf was left on the ground. The property line fence a few hundred feet down the ridge line was full of them though, it looked about the same as if a creek had got out of its banks and how a fence catches the debris flowing through it.

Made it thru the storm just fine here in southern Middle TN. It did get windy and rained hard and we had a little hail but no damage to home or property.

A lot of folks not to far off from us were not near as lucky.

Absolutely bueatiful day today and me and my boy got out and looked for some morels this morning and I looked more mid day here at my home place.

No luck at all finding any... expect it is just too early yet.

Got some real good exercise and enjoyed the great outdoors.

Also picked out a good spot to put up a deer stand for next fall, and a salt lick this spring.

My boy played in the creek some, got over his rubber boots.

Here is how a 10 year old thinks - I can actually catch those minnows with my hat !!!!

He tried hard, but got no minnows either.

TN Hunter- lucky you to have a grandson nearby. Mine are hours away.

I got the liq calcium sprayed on the plantings from October. Very windy, and briskly cool, so only stayed out in the woods for about 4 hours.

Drove home today, and saw my first 3-leafer up. It was the only one, tho. Nothing was above ground in the mountains. Maybe it's a sign that many more are to come!
