TOPIC: Hey Hillhopper

Hey Hillhopper, you get those seeds planted yet and did you order anymore seed too? Not having any seed to plant is driving me nuts. Today would have been a great day to plant here in Ohio. A bit cold but it was sunny and the leaves are dry enough to rake in the woods for the moment. We have had a ton of rain lately but the dry air and sun seems to dry out the leaves fairly quickly.

I haven't planted any yet Latt. I was just thinkin today If I was gonna order em I better be doin it or they will rebury em till Spring. Im still spendin every decent day tryin to catch up on our work. Right after Christmas I will probably start. I also held off buying anymore seed due to a certain seed company owing me some money. I give them the option of sending me what they owed in seed and I still haven't heard anything. I hate to publicly run someone down but if they are gonna try to slip me, then I will post all the info and emails on here. You know who Im talkin about Im sure... Anyways, Ill get off my soap box but... how much were ya lookin to get?

I might possibly buy one more pound but now that deer season is over I can at least get back out in the wood to clear some future spots. Not a lot of underbrush to contend with just some Japanese Honeysuckle here and there and thicker in some spots than others. It will be good to be back in the woods. I am not a big deer hunter anymore but my younger brother is and he likes to keep me supplied with deer meat. I sure enjoy reading the post on here pertaining to deer hunting thou. Seen some great pics and some great stories of some youngsters getting some nice bucks.

I was gonna get a few more lb , plus yours and another fella on here was wanting some. That should make just enough weight to where we can buy it decently.

This is a good time to kill invasive plants like japanese honeysuckel.Use a herbicide without the sticky stuff ,it is bad for the spring lizzards!

I found another pound of seed, and have scheduled it to arrive in mid Jan. I plan on putting it 1/2 lb in my backyard treeline, and 1/2 lb up in the mountains. Well, if the weather cooperates....

Good luck and on a quick note anytime I plant outside of the woods in an area like a Hosta bed or in a bed close to the yard the \"Slugs\" tear em up badly. There must be some natural defense in the woods to some extent because the slug damage is typically minimal even in a large wild patch of seng. But grow seng close to the house or yard the slugs will strip the leaves clean off in a matter of a couple days.

Classicfur suggested \"Deadline\" in the blue pellet form to treat slug problems and that is what I use now. I even use a little in the woods to be safe. Stuff works like magic. I believe Larry Harding uses it too.

The backyard treeline of mine is really a 40'x200' foot strip of woods. It's back there beside my greenhouse. I think the biggest problem I'll have there is the deeper soil, very clayey about an inch down. I've already planted a lb of rootlets there this fall, and a lb of seed from our hosts here at wildgrown.com. Well, I could have problem with gophers, we have our share here in the piedmont of NC.

I'm treating it w similar amendments as I use in the mountains, tritated to the soil samples I've sent in.

My plan is to harvest seed from my backyard treeline, to cut costs. I hope that things will work out well in that dept. Any seed we grow is an assist to our bottom line!
