There are a few dark ones here and there but even those have meat in them

PA, that particular seed supplier takes seed from multiple suppliers and mixes them. He claims it gives the plants to come the ability to have a diverse genetic pool once they cross pollinate. So if anyone wants seed that is derived from many different suppliers this is the seed to buy. This is why the seeds are varying in size and color.
I like the idea but I know some do not.

PAwoodsman,

Just a FYI - Green Seeds have meat in them too, but will not sprout the spring after planting in the fall. The seed has to be properly stratified before that will work.

Seed can be Green and have meat in them (mostly clear white).

Seed can be improperly stratified and have meat in them (mostly clear white, with perhaps underdeveloped embryo's).

Seed that has been properly stratified will have embryo that has developed to the 2-3 mm size range.

Check out the post below for some good details on that.

Several of us bought seed last fall that looked good on the outside, float tested good, etc, but it did not sprout up the following spring. Expect a lot of green or improperly stratified seed hit the market late last year.

To find out if your seed is really good, you have to split open some and check for proper embryo development. See the post below for details.

Thanks TN. I started this on another post but accidentally posted the pic wrong. Lol. Oh well. I first started planting ginseng seed with my dad over twenty years ago. We got seed from a friend and just planted the green seed every year. So I never thought to check the embryos. We didn't have much land though. I made a deal with a friend to start planting on his land. That fell through though. He decided to go for the fast cash coal.

I have four pounds left. I was thinking of selling it. But now I'm not sure. I'm thinking of planting it in the state park. Then just letting it grow. There use to be alout around there but got poached out. I just have to find a safe place. There shouldn't be any legal issues with that. Right?

Here's a pic of the embryos. Hope u can see them.

PA, 8 of those 10 seeds appear to have nice embryos!!!! Also I would not plant on a state park without contacting the park ranger, or your WVDNR just to be on the safe side. But that's just my opinion.
Nice looking seed.
