TOPIC: Planting this weekend, 5 lb.s

Planting this weekend, 5 lb.s 13 years 3 weeks ago #15156

Was going up yesterday. however yesterday am there had snow and pretty cold [for NC]... so decided to go today when it'll be a bit warmer. I expect tht the 1\" of snow they got yesterday is gone now, and even if it isn't under the leaves will be OK to get seeds in. It's too early for the ground to be frozen down here.

There's 5 lb.s to replant the same area that I put in this past spring. I have added the gypsum and line to the area over the summer. Those were the biggest soil problems I had, and these should be corrected by this...

I'll post photos when I get back!

Had computer failure over this week, My old G4 Powermac has given up it's primary hardrive, and I'm getting it ready to accept another. Lot's to do there... however will have it done by the weekend.

I took lots of photos while planting.... will up load them this weekend.

Used TNHunter's double rake method, and planted all five pounds into 1/2 acre!

It actually took a bit over 4 hours to do it. We'd already prepared the beds during the summer, so didn't have to do much of that... you know, clear understory, etc. Once you get the \"hang\" of it, proceeding to the next bed actually kinda moves along pretty good.

I'll post photos ASAP.

Hey guys. had a hard drive fail on my computer, the primary one, and had to r/r it. then had to get it suited to my needs, and that took a bit of time. However, now it's going and I have the photos of last weekend's efforts!

My wife took most of these and she's not too familiar with the new camera, so some of these are \"blue\" --these are sharpe enough to post however.

Getting ready to start at the bottom of the \"patch.\"

I did the TNHunter method he calls \"double-rake\". My version is really quadruple raked, tho. and a pounding w/ metal rake to loosen soil around roots...

1] first rake to remove top leaf clutter w/ large fan rake
2] switch rakes, score ground [translate: a pounding w/ metal rake to loosen soil around roots...]
3] sow seed to desired amount/sq ft
4] using metal-tined rake, move seeds into small holes/scores I made in step 2 and rake soil over them
5] switch rakes back to fan rake and recover bed w/ leaf clutter

Planting seeds after steps 1/2. that's my dog Klaus supervising. The orange flags are where there were emerged gensing from this year's spring planting. We had a poor emergance rate from that one.
