Wild ginseng is concidered endangered in Canada.
Growing ginseng in Canada has become a problem if you grow wild simulated style.(*The powers that be) have changed a few rules that encompass wild simulated and wild. Yes thats right wild simulated is out lawed and concidered wild ginseng, because as they put it (\"wild simulated ginseng is growing where wild COULD grow so it is detrimental to the growth of wild ginseng\").
Meanwhile in the London area of Ontario the field growers clear cut the forests for the planting of ginseng. In those forest wild ginseng grows like jack the bear, but this is ok and not detrimental to the wild populations???
But if you go into the forest and don't disturb anything and throw around some ginseng seed,it is cocidered a detriment to the wild populations because you planted where wild COULD grow.
In my many years of growing ginseng I have seen ginseng grow healthy in a pH of 8.3 down to 4.6, sandy or rocky , dry or wet, even on beaver dams. So where it could grow is a large FRIGGIN area of Ontario.
So you must \"cultivate\" your ginseng, and intrude in the forest by removing debris, clearing rocks and trees, tilling the soil , adding fertilizers and or pesticides and fungicides, then you will be concidered by our government to be not detrimental to the wild populations of ginseng.
Or just join the GGAC and PAY THEM 50 DOLLARS AN ACRE PER YEAR.
We have been doing this for many years and thank god I made trails into our plots and removed some old trees before they fell on us.Now we are a \"woods grown ginseng grower\".

(*the powers that be) these are university students fresh out of class trying to make a name, believing they know all because of a degree. With lily white hands and manicured finger nails they write tripe - instead of getting out into the real world and maybe get their hands dirty with real earth.

Jesus says; forgive them for they know not what they do.
But it sure is hard eh!

Guy,
That may get to be the case in the U.S. in a few years. I've kept all my seed receipts over the past 16 years just in case I need proof of planting. Who knows what may happen?

The way I understand Ohio ginseng law it is very similar. The state of Ohio classifies ginseng into 2 categories Wild and Cultivated. If the ground isn't tilled it is considered wild. Even though I may have purchased the seed and planted it. I guess we can't keep all the screwed up laws and politicians here in the States. Welcome to Insanity Guy!
