TOPIC: Agri-gro micronutrient suppliment

Agri-gro micronutrient suppliment 13 years 3 months ago #11376

When I was out in Iowa a week ago, for a family funeral, one of the distant cousins and I got started on a conversation about micronutrients. Like Sulphur, and calcium, and boron, and stuff like that. This distant cousin [by marriage] of mine was quite knowledgable about this, and I found the conversation quite stimulating... and a great distraction from the rest of the conversations going on.

And, of course, I brought up my ginseng project!

I told him about the soil anaylses. He suggusted that I invest in a product called \"Agri-gro\" which as I understand it addresses most of the problems I have as identified in my numerous soil analysis.
Some other suggustions were made my this guy, who incidentily has several hundred acres of traditional crops actively farmed in Iowa.

I seem to remember someone posting last fall about Agri-Gro, and am wondering if anyone here has used this?

It's expensive... and appears to be only sold in 5 gal quantities... however is used in small amounts as it goes very far. I guess that someone like my distant sousin who has many many acres would purchase the larger amounts, however I am reluctant to buy such a lartge amount given the smaller scope of my efforts thus far.

Any ideas?

I found some smaller quanties of this , see link below. It's apparently all concentrate, so a little goes a long way.

the Agri-Gro website link is different... and found below:

Whitjr looks pretty interesting! I would try some on a test plot to see how it does verses an untreated area and observe the two for differences. Never know, you may be on to something. I have talked to experts that say they feel many great ideas and products may be left idle on the shelf because ginseng growers get a system that works for them and are reluctant to try new things.
So you just never know till you try.

Whitjr,

I drilled down into some of the info on other pages on their website (FAQ page) and found where they said that the Super-Cal product will affect PH.

They did not specifically say how, but I would assume it would be somewhat like lime - raising the PH.

You might want to do more digging and get more details on that before you try it on seng.

Now if your planting location is very low on PH - say in the 4.0-4.5 range - might not be a big problem, but if you are already in the 5.5 -6.0 range you would not want to be increasing PH any.

Good Luck

I'm going to order the kit they have for sale, for around $40.-. I plan to apply it to the soil prior to planting, like a month before.

I'm going up to the \"patch\" this weekend, and take my tiller, a whole group of lime, and gypsum. MY consecutive soil anaylses indicate that a whole group of calcium is still needed, and the pH is coming up slowly with the stuff I've already added earlier this year.

there's still a long way to go, so adding the Agri-Gro micronutrients suppliments can't do much but assist it.

thanks for the good thoughts, guys!
