TOPIC: How many seng plants do you see ?

How many seng plants do you see ? 13 years 4 months ago #10710

Ok Guys - this can be a little warm up for seng hunting this season. It will be hear soon - might as well get your eyes tuned in some early this year.

This is a little spot just off my back yard.

I transplanted a few very small 2 prongs into this spot (2 falls ago) and in this picture some of them can be seen now.

Now just like seng hunting there is a bunch of other stuff in there that looks similar to seng (virginia creeper included).

Most of them are easy to spot, one is quite a bit harder.

I took a stroll out to my seed producing bed to see how things were going there and happy to report things are looking real good.

We got another good rain yesterday and woke up this morning to a good slow rain that lasted a few hours.

My seng plants are sure looking happy at this point.

Had a few yellow spots show up around first of June on some plants, but they look about the same now as they did then, not getting any worse - glad to see that.

I do see wild plants around here with yellow spots now and then so expect that is just going to happen her in the south some.

I did order and got in some organic fungicide (Actinovate) and may spray a little of that on my seed bed and other nearby plants to give them a little extra protection soon.

Here is what the seed pods are looking like today. Most are filling out nicely now.

This is that big 4 (one of Billy's roots) that had the first berry this year.

Here is the largest/stoutest plant in the bed (one of my local seng plants) a big stout 3.

It's a little behind the others but has some berries on now and looks like is going to have a nice wad of berries when done.

Good Saturday Morning folks !

Last Saturday I picked a nice wad of blackberries, bit over 1 gal. My wife made 7 pints + 4 half-pints of blackberry jam out of them. We also ate some fresh and for breakfast last Saturday.

This morning I got out early, and did even better.

I picked a little over a gallon and a half and was back home before 7:30.

There will be a blackberry cobler later this weekend and more jammin going on.

We have had a bunch of rain in mid-late June and so far in July this year (late May, early June had a hot dry spell) but after that we have had good rains, every few days and some good ones.

Blackberries are big and fat this weekend, and last year at this time you could not find any at all.

Last year our seng did not make berries like it usually does either.

I think this year is going to be a outstanding year for seng berry producing. Got rain at the right time this year and plenty of it.

When blackberries make well in TN - think you can count on ginseng making a good crop of berries too.

Below is what I harvested this morning - Yum !

OK TN, I'll bite.....1 at 7 o'clock of the stump, 1 at 9 o'clock(possible another right to the left of that one), 1 at 2 o'clock, over about a foot. As for a harder one, next to the tree on the right at the top of the pic? Did you plant 3 or 4 seeds at 5 o'clock?

Maya,

I think you may have got all of them.

Good Job !

I did not mention any 3 leafers but you did see them.

I circled all of the seng plants in this pic and the 3 leafers that can be seen. There are more 3 leavers in the area but many just can't be seen in the pic.

Think I will collecet me some more 2's and small 3's (late this fall) and plant them in that spot - they seem to be doing well there.
