TOPIC: Chantrelles ?

Chantrelles ? 13 years 4 months ago #10702

Any of you guys looking for or finding any of these yet. I got out and found a few of them on tuesday here in Southeastern Ohio. Sorry, I didn't take any pics. I may go to my good area tonight. Just haven't had much free lately.

Billy, I'm doing good. Have been working a lot of hours for the past 6 months... Haven't had much time to get in the woods. Went turkey hunting a few times, picked some black rasberries a couple of weeks ago, and then took a stroll and found that one patch of chantrelles and checked out one of my seng areas. That has been the extent of me getting outdoors this year except for one day of muzzle loader deer season early in January.
I checked out your website. Looked pretty nice! Hope you and your family are doing well.

I went to two of my best Chantrelle spots and nothing yet. I saw on the morel mushroom board for Ohio where Pedro found some smooth Chants in southern Ohio the other day.
We found over 3,000 Chants last year and many Black Trumpets and old man of the woods in late July. Found my fill of Chickens in August but not as many Hens In Sept as I am used to finding.

Guys I still havent fount any chans but hope to soon.

Wonder when o Cheiftain is going to pop in should be any time now :)

We got to get ThE sEnG fAcToR moving in the forum before to long.

I am looking forward to making Seng Season In Kentucky 2011 to share my season again with all of you guys. This will be my fourth season with the site,,,man im getting pumped i can see them big mtn 4.s in my mind.

I will be visiting one of my favorite spots this season guys.I havent been to this site in 3 years I nicknamed this holler Seng Branch I have never dug many 3 prongs here because I always leave them unless their just masterfull tops you guys no what i am talking about.

The reason I do this is it is so far back and so hard to get to that I dont wory to much about any one finding this area, the only thing I dread is the walk lol im getting older and hurt more i rekon :) but

These 3`s that i leave become 4,s and I never go to this spot without finding sevrall 30 year plants sometimes older,,,,,,every third year i always think that I will find that real old father plant that has escaped me there,,but he has alluded me for along time.

The oldest plant I have dug there was 43 years and I know that there is some there much older, maybe this will be the time when I find him.........If not then maybe L.Bill or Caleb will find the old guy because I think this season will be my last trip back there. Then it will be the boys.

So I will take photos and video of this site and the plants that grow there and show you some that I leave the good Lords will...

Man I am sure looking forward to this season,

Billy.

Billy,

Looking forward to seeing pics or video of that hunt.

Sounds like a special place there since you have been treating it special.

I will not hunt a hollow myself every year - I always skip a year.

I leave all of the two prongs and some small 3's and dig the decent sized 3's and up.

If you skip a year then all of those 2's and small 3's are usualy decent sized 3's when you return and all of those berries that you planted since you skiped a year, you get to see them up as 3 leafers.

Anyway that is how I do it and it works well that way.

If I notice a place is getting a little thin, I will wait 3 years before returning.

Some of my favorite hunting spots are ready for hunting again this year - like you - can't wait.

Latt, I'm sure you should start finding some chants soon. I never made it to my good spots yet. I'm currently on vacation with my family at Topsail Island, North Carolina. I'll be checking my best spot as soon as I get back. I'm hoping that they'll last. Chants get wormy and a little woody pretty quick. I love those little things all sautee'd up with a nice medium rare steak, or in some beef strogunauf.

Billy and TN, I'm with you guys. Waiting for the SeNg FaCtOr to kick in. Lookin foreward to getting out there and searching for them OLD ones. Startn to get that itch already !!!!:woohoo:

Here is a pic of some fresh chantrelles I found tonight after work in my hot spot. Only hunted less than an hour. I am sure there is plenty more to be had. I am going back Wed to get some more.

Latt, looks good. I'm finding them all over the place around hear. It keeps raining and they just keep popping up. I've only picked enough for a couple of meals. I'm the only one who'll eat them at my house, and I see no reason for wasting them. I could probably get several bushel baskets full, although a lot of them are getting too old for good eating.:(
Hope you find all you can eat. Good luck man!
