TOPIC: Jackson County, TN question

Jackson County, TN question 13 years 4 months ago #10487

Just noticed large tracts of land for sale around NW Jackson County, TN. Just wondered how seng does up there with it being in the lower elevations between 500ft to 1000ft above sea level. I imagine the weather there is similar to Kentucky and most of middle TN. All the land for sale that I looked at is priced very good and I was looking to expand my growing operation up that way.

LJ125,

Don't know much about Jackson County.

I have been to Lebanon TN which is not too far from there and in Lebanon there is lots of rock near the surface (which might be good for seng) but there is also lots of Cedar Trees too (which might not be good for seng).

Now the only woods I have been in in Lebanon was when they had one of the TN State NFAA Archery tournaments there back in the late 80's. I won the State International NFAA Championship there when they had it in Lebanon that year.

Best I remember that was in a Park type setting, seems like it was called the Cedars of Lebanon State Park - but that has sure been a long time ago and could be wrong on that.

Other areas may not be so covered in Cedars as that Park area was.

Where I live down in southern middle TN our elevation ranges from 600-1100 and we find most of our seng below the 750' elevation range. There are exceptions, but most is below 750' and it also pretty much has to be on north or north east facing hillsides too with only a few rare exceptions to that.

Good Luck with your land search.

I can be in Jackson county in about 15 min from where I live. If there is one place the seng population is hurt and abused, its there. Lots of seng hunters in that area but there is lots of great land for it also. I would have loved to hunted the virgin land there a couple hundred years ago! I don't know what to tell ya, I would really hate to try it in that area and not live on top of it. The dealer I sell to says lots and lots of seng comes out of there early in the season without growth buds and its primarily poor seeming folk that bring it in. I would almost be afraid someone would relieve you of the chore of digging it.

Through the vine I have heard of poachers or impatient harvesters abusing the seng population in Morgan County, TN as of late. Its a shame that they don't want to insure the future of seng so they can make money later on down the road. Don't know whether its the economy or the painkiller epidemic thats associated with it.

Either way its people like ya'll on this site who might be the only hope for the future of seng.
