Here is the creek bed just below the planting area. Nice cool moist air in this woods.

This is the fourth pic and fourth post showing a small section of this other large bed in the same woods as previous pics. These plants are way too close together. However, they are growing great with no sign of slug damage or disease. I may dig these up and transplant them. These are two year old plants this year. This is seed I mixed that I bought from Larry at Harding's Ginseng and from Mike at Hardwood Ginseng. Germination rate was outstanding. I know ginseng planted too close together will thin itself eventually. So I may dig some of it to spread it out.

Latt, Thats some nice healthy looking sang. I have planted some of mine that close in the past and now it is getting blight this year. It made it fine for the first few years, but it got me pretty good this spring.

Latt

Nice looking plants.

The spacing of the two tear olds in the first pic looks good.

The thing I've noticed with my three year olds that have a flower top, is that it just does'nt have much energy to develope into berries. That's the main reason I clip flowers on three and four yr olds. The root wastes energy on producing a flower that really does'nt develope into anything. It may develope a berry or two, but thats about all.

Thanks for sharing those.

Latt,

Nice looking younglings there. I agree on the need to thin them out some. I have a couple of beds where I got some too thick and plan to transplant a few this fall too and to be more careful this year on not planting too thick.

In fact I have a bunch of land to plant and may just reduce my seeding rate to more like 3-4 per sq ft. That should help with disease issues and if you have a bunch of land to plant no need in crowding them up.

On the seed bed and berries developing. I have been taking a pic each Friday and think I will continue that for a while, perhaps until they start turning red. Figure it will be Mid August before I see any turning red, but not sure about the berries on those I got from Billy - they are definately ahead of my local seng plants at producing berries.

Lenno - I will have to do some transplanting in a couple seed beds late next season,I will let them alone for now as they are only at 1 yr old and need to strengthen this year.I am learning about planting stratified seed ALOT.......

You know as many wild seeds as I have planted Lord only knows how many,Im sure that I find many 4 prongs that my teacher Adam planted and some that I have planted in the wild,,

Someone might think Billy will be the perfect guy to plant stratified, but I promise I am def: learning alot I didnt know.

classicfur - Thanks for that tip

Guys I will post a pic or two soon of my babies.

Billy I can't wait to see how the seeds you planted do in those mountain woods and soil. Good luck and good to hear from you.
