TOPIC: Questions on seed storage (prior to planting).

Re:Questions on seed storage (prior to planting). 13 years 10 months ago #10262

This has worked for us for over fifty years now.

A 5 gallon plastic bucket with them snap lids and metal handles, will be half full with five pounds of seed in it. Test them, treat them, dry them till they don't stick to your hand after grabin a bunch. Put them in the pail with a handfull of dry crumbled peatmoss stir around till mixed up, put on the lid, store in fridge at 40 - 45 degrees. Take the lid off every other day, shakem around and stir them up, be gentler as they smile more. Try to maintain the moisture at the no stickers level. Store till you need them. Inspect a handfull monthly for growth and disease.

To be sure of the tempature get a thermometer that measures liquid, put it in a small glass full of water and place in the fridge. Get the fridge ready a week or so ahead because it can be tricky depending on the fridge you got.
