Hi everyone, I have medical condition that can benefit from taking ginseng. Does anyone have any experiences in regards to taking fresh ginseng instead of dried ginseng? I heard from some folks I know that fresh ginseng works better..either way I am sure I will benefit from the many medicinal effects ginseng possesses. Thanks much for your opinion in advance!

Ginseng offers a lot of medical benefits for all of us and is believed to have many healing and energy-giving properties because of the natural chemicals called 'Ginsenosides' in the roots. I think fresh ginseng is as good as the dried one. The benefits are still the same.

Fresh wild ginseng would/should only be available for part of the year.

If harvested legally here in TN that would be from Aug 15 until around Mid October.

I guess if you had ginseng growing on your own property you could harvest fresh from April/May thru October.

During the digging season I take some fresh seng, but after my only real option is dry.

If you drink coffee in the morning you might try this (I do it).

Put a little dry seng in your coffee, and sip the coffee until it is gone then that dry seng will be re-hydrated and it taste like fresh seng at that point (coffee flavored) :-)

Yum !

TN, that's what I do. How much do you put in your coffee?

Maya,

Whether it's my morning coffee or a cup of green tea (with honey/lemon) mid-day, I usually put something like 3-4 slices or pieces in.

I take a green root and just break off the root neck, root hairs, small root branches into pieces, then slice the root up in slices about 1/8\" or even 1/16\" thick.

Here is a pic of one I did recently.

I kept the leaves, stems, root, even the flower spike and will use all of that.

I have read that the flower spike has the highest concentration of meds in it (much higher than the root or other parts) so you should probably go easy on that and even though it may be very small, break it up in pieces and only take small amounts at a time.

Here is some info on ginseng bud blossom and ginsenoside level comparisons to the root.

Of course they are trying to sell the stuff so keep that in mind.
