Found this on a dead branch on the ground any ideal as to what it is

I've got a few dozen dead elms around the ginseng woods and some around an old beaver pond at the edge of fields can't find a morel to save my life, feels like i'm running out of time in western ny southern tier.

PS found some of the pheasant back type on a dead elm also

Rpd I just found my first ever morels toay. I've got tons of dead elm ash apples n searched for another tree hrs after n found no more ton of pheasant backs. I'm bout 30 miles north of Watertown NY. On another mushroom site people just starting to find them around NY happy hunting

In the back of my mind I remember seeing morels around the woods back when I didn't know Ginseng from Jewelweed. Hoping to stumble on some in between tending Ginseng crop and hunting turkey. It's just fun looking for something new. I could fill dumptrucks full of wild leeks and trillium right now, So things are definitely taking off.
Can anyone say if morels prefer really wet areas or higher, drier ground might narrow it down for me.

Yes turkey tails for sure.
Medicinal I think but I have never dried and ground any up for medicinal purposes. Not edible for pleasure tho.
