TOPIC: how to prepare cohosh?

how to prepare cohosh? 12 years 3 months ago #19916

hey guys :) Whilst out looking for ginseng, I have been digging a little of the taller cohosh I see (just the 3'+ ones) My question is, how should I prepare to take to the dealer? I've heard cut it in 1\" pieces  is that right? are we talking about just the main stem or all of the little shoots too? How do you prepare your cohosh? I looked at the cohosh forum, but I didn't see a thread that answered this question. Thanks for your time!

Hello , Best to break root into pieces at joints as lots of foreign
roots and rocks are stuck in there then wash till clean ! If you are drying make sure plenty of air flow as mold can be a problem now with damp weather. Good luck !

These guys are right. Cohosh must be completely clean and free of foreign material or mold.

Breaking it up allows you to clean it better and also allows it to dry faster without molding/spoiling. I\"d keep a small heater under it at 70-80 degrees and keep a fan on all the time until its dry.
