TOPIC: when to dig yellowroot?

when is the best time of the year to dig yellowroot. i live in eastern kentucky and im just now getting into herb hunting and i was trying to figure out the best time frame to dig it. also any advice for best way to dig and selling wet vs dry would be appreciated thanks

I've noticed the berries already ripening and falling off so I'd say as soon as all this rain stops go for it.

The way I dig is using a small mattock and if it's a pretty good sized patch I'll get on my knees digging pulling a sack (duffle bag) with me. This sure saves my back.

When I get home I wash the roots in a cement mixer (drum type) about 3 different rinses to get them good and clean. You can dry them in the attic or in any warm dry area.

funny you mentioned a cement mixer . i use one of those to wash my black cohosh when i dig it thanks for the reply.
