Here in Middle TN we call it Star Root.
I dig some each year - usually find some here and there while hunting ginseng - but it usually grows a bit higher on the hill than ginseng does but at times you will find it in similar location that ginseng likes.

I have never seen one in bloom. I expect they do that in spring. In the fall when hunting ginseng there is no flower spike on it at all.
I ended up with just a few ounces of it last season and also had some goldenseal (yellow root) and bloodroot as well. I don't really hunt those - but while hunting seng if I find the others I will harvest them too.
