DirtyNails,
Those are all wild roots collected here in Middle Tennessee.
Those were a couple of my better hunts this year.
On one of those trips (those big fat roots) I went alone, my seng hunting partner had to work that day and I had my birthday off from work and had a real good hunt here close to home.
I found those big fat ones growing about 1/3 the way up a 200' bluff - it was sure hard getting up there but well worth the trip
That big bowl full was a trip me and my partner did one day - we hunted a long day that day and did not find any real big ones (think only 1 small 4) but we found several hundred decent 3 prongs.
That was in a place we dug 2 years ago and we found about the same amount then. We always leave the small seng and plant the berries back and if you do that and only hunt a place every other year, you can hunt it forever and just keep on finding it. If you do notice it slowing down a bit you can wait 3 years before going back a few times until it starts looking better.
We have some real good places we hunted last year that we passed on this year. Looking forward to hunting them again next year.
PS - here is a link to the post I put up that day I dug those big fat roots on the bluff. Several pics you might enjoy.
