TOPIC: Transplanting seedlings

Can you transplant seedlings without hirting them? I dont know if my seeds got washed down by rain or what but a lot of them are coming up really close together

I wouldn't try transplanting them until the end of summer.

how deep do you transplant your seedlings Jim.

By late July, or into August they will have developed next years bud spur....
The later you can wait the better... if you wait until they make it to Sept and start yellowing... that would be ideal time to transplant the 1 yr old rootlets.

I have never transplanted any that young myself. I am sure that at that age they are going to be quite small and could be easily damaged.

Might be better off waiting until the end of growing season their second year to transplant.

I have transplanted several in the small two prong stage and had really good results.

I’m of the same opinion of Tennessee.. I really like to transplant 2-3 year olds... I’ve had some rootlets make it though... I try to get the bud at least an inch or so below the surface....
