When is the earliest safe time you can top off plants? The berries are dropping on mine and digging season opens soon.

Boonerman,
I have been topping mine for a week now. The berries are ripe and they have done well like this for several years. If the berries might still be green, I think you would want to hold off.

I start topping whenever I have the chance after the first week or so of August here in Ohio
