Early 'sang looks different. just a few leaves on a long stem that is dark.

If yuu so a search here on this site for 1 year old plants, you should see some young plants in early stages of growth.

Looks to me like an early mayapple. Looks like the apple is there in the center of the leaves to be. Could be wrong but that's my take.

If you are looking for what first year ginseng plants look like when they first emerge...

Back in 2013 I found some up very early (March 18).

That is the earliest I have ever found any 3 leafers up.

Notice that one had a twin right beside it but the top broke off on it, while pushing it's way out the leaves.

A couple days later on March 20 below is what that one looked like.
