I got seriously delayed in my spring planting!
I purchased 4# of seed and hit three snags along the way, to get in and get the seeds in the ground. In the meantime, they started to sprout in the bags. Not good!
Finally, the other day, my dad and I got to our spot. My idea was to poke a hole in the dirt and put a seed in. I figured at one seed per second, it would take 8.3 hours. I saw right off the bat, that I would be lucky to see one seed per 20 seconds. Clearly, this was not going to work. At least, not this late in the season!
I decided to have Dad rake back rows 24\" wide while I scattered seed in the areas. He then raked over them. I know this is more of a Fall technique, especially since 33% of the seed had sprouted, but at this point, we had no choice. We got 15,000 seeds in the ground, and I have another 15,000 more.
We now know what to do next season, and we will be way ahead of the game, but at least I feel I saved this year's seed lot; even if they are too close together, I can dig the roots and replant in the Fall.
Feedback welcome, if anyone thinks I forked up.
