TOPIC: Father's Day

Father's Day 10 years 5 months ago #28626

This thread to soooo off-topic, however worthwhile,,,,,

Please post something about your Dad, a photo, or something he taught you that serves you to this day.

I'll start: my father taught me the meaning of your personal word! And, by example, courage and bravery. .

The photo I attempted to load earlier, somehow didn't make it. I have posted it below in this thread.

I lost my dad 15 years ago, almost to the day. He was always the ”go-to” man. He new a lot about most every problem you could incounter and a solution to help you through it. If he didn't then he was willing to stay with me until we pushed through the troubles. I sure do miss someone having my back like that. He made sure I knew how to enjoy the most important things in life, which are the most simple things.

I had a dream about him several weeks ago. He came to me in the woods to tell me he was back for a day. So many questions I had for him and so many things I had to tell him of the last fifteen years and the good time we had that day. At sunset he hugged me and faded away. I had been having a hard time that week and I like to think that somehow he did come to me through my dreams.

Im thankful for my salvation by grace of god and because of that, I'll meet him again one day .

Great thread Whitjr.

Whitjr,
Thank you for this thread. As I read your comments about your Father it brought back some very sensitive memories. I was in Viet Nam just before your Father got there and I rode the CH-123 more than once. They kept our little base supplied. I was in a Helicopter Assault group in the Mekong Delta. I'm sure that he had many stories to tell. Sometimes another family member can be your mentor and best teacher in life and in my case it was an Uncle. I miss him to this day and I think of him often. Fathers, Friends, and family members can be your guiding lite throughout life and I sure remember the ones who helped lead me.
Happy Father's Day to all.

This is the photo of my Dad that somehow would not load in my above post.

The photo was taken in 1967' in-country Republic of South Vietnam. He was about to go on another sortie in support of the 5th Special forces Group. H e flew the C-123k, that could land on all the very very short strips where the SF Posts had to be way in the jungle. A Lt.Col in the USAF at war at age 46.

I carry this photo in my wallet everyday.

Hey guys...

I fished the creek this morning... caught a few smallies and black perch... going to fish a local lake tomorrow morning.

Guess what my Dad taught me :-)

Below a pic of my Dad from 1973 with what I think I could safely say is the largest string of large mouth bass ever caught in the state of TN, one day, one person. I have never seen a sting even close to this one.

He loved it and fished hard... when I was worn out and ready to go home, he would say \"just one more cast\" about 100 times...

He also loved hunting deer, turkey, squirrel, quail, doves, bull frogs - just about anything and he passed that on to me too.

My dad taught me everything I know about hunting, fishing, and just being in the woods in general. He taught me about making maple syrup, and about house maintenance. About the only thing he doesn't know is what ginseng looks like, and where to find it, and how to dig it. So I am teaching him!!! Hopefully in a few years when he retires, he'll be able to take up the hobby.

Nice fellas. Holy Cow TN, that's some huge bass for sure and a boat load of them!!!! I have been doing a lot of fishing this past week. Lots of small large mouth, small crappie and some bluegill. Missed out on the saugeye and walleye run tho. It was earlier in late May. Been catching a lot of fish but not much size to them. Hopefully the big ones will start to move in.

Latt...

Even small fish taste good and they are fun to catch too :-)

We had the opposite of that problem this morning. The Lake we fished has a 13-18\" slot limit.

You can't keep a bass in that size range and can only keep one bass over 18\" (per person).

We ended up with 2 that we could keep (12 inchers)... and had to turn loose 6 others that were in the 14-15\" range. I hate that... those sure would have made some nice fillets.

We ate those two for lunch - yum !

We could not stay long this morning, only got to fish a couple of hours, but it sure was a nice day to be on the lake.
