You dont want to get all the dirt out of the rings. It sounds like you are washing them good enough to me.

I agree lenno dont over wash it lonnieowens36

The dealer I have delt with for years has always told me not to over wash the seng,I do as you did I just use the sprayer to wash it then towel it dry and lay it on the screen,in the box etc for drying and I have never had one complaint.

Hey Billy-

What do you think about just rinsing them off in the creek? Would that be the same?

Lonnie,

Try this - I have been doing it for years and it works great.

I have a big tub type sink in our utility room.

I dump my days harvest into the deep sink and turn on the faucet - cold water.

I then pick up a handfulls of seng in each hand and gently rub them together while the water runs over them.

Be careful not to rub to hard - you don't want to break the tiny hair roots off the main root and stop as soon as the majority of the dirt is off.

The goal should be to get the clumps of dirt off but not to try and scrub them extra clean. Need to leave some on for color in the rings.

Good Hunting !

Lonnie,

How quickly are the roots drying? If they dry to fast it can cause a darker coloration of the root, giving it a brown or dirty appearance. Sounds like your washing technique is fine.
