TOPIC: Appalachian Outlaws followup

Appalachian Outlaws followup 10 years 8 months ago #27798

When I was watching the Appalachian Outlaw series and it got toward the last couple of episodes they changed the venue to Piney Flats, Tn. They introduced a couple of real hardcore Hill Billies that were making moonshine and they had decided to make a version with infused ginseng. After stumbling around over the hills pretending to try to find some ginseng they decided to try to buy some in West Virginia. Tiny Roberson and his friend went to Coffman's but could not buy any and wound up buying from two of the locals who had previous problems with Coffman and Gen. Patton. They wound up paying $1400.00 per pound for the ginseng they bought. That's just a little summary of what was shown and at the time I thought it was a joke just added to make the show more realistic. It was not a joke!!
My wife and I fish on the South Holston River a lot and it has been a few weeks since we were up there. We pass through Piney Flats as we're going to the river and as we were approaching the town I made a joke to my wife that we might see Tiny Roberson selling moonshine as we went through. As we entered the City Limits I began to see signs along the highway saying \"Free Moonshine samples\". We came to the center of town and there was a large sign pointing to the right giving directions to this new business. I could not believe it so I \"Googled Up\" this address and look what came up.

I learn something every day. This was race day at the Bristol Motor Speedway and they sure had the business. Enjoy the read and laugh.

Rickyc,
I don't know why that link would not open for you. I clicked on it and it worked fine. It was an article in the Johnson City paper telling about the opening of the new Moonshine business in Piney Flats. They are testing all kinds of different additives to their moonshine to help sell the product.

About those Walleye pictures: I'm having a difficult time finding them this Spring. I've fished the Clinch and the French Broad a few times already and I have not caught the first one. I did catch some trout on the South Holston River the day we went through Piney Flats. I love those Walleye to eat. Yum...Yum...
