TOPIC: Stratified seeds

Stratified seeds 10 years 10 months ago #27214

Do any of the big seed and root sellers buy stratified seeds from smaller growers to resell?

They sure do. Big sellers buy from smaller sellers and smaller sellers buy from big sellers all depending on seed source supply and demand. So if your seeds are light in color and large typically they come from a Field Cultivated source. If your seeds are darker and smaller typically they come from a woodsgrown source.

I believe if a smaller Grower of Ginseng has a supply of seeds at this time of year and wants to sell them, I would imagine that a lot of members here would be interested. I am not sure that advertising that you have extra seeds this late or early (whichever you consider that it is) is really okay on the forums but if the information be known, then folks could contact the person. One would have to be aware of the legalities before going forward.

Thanks guys. I don't have seeds right now, but I'm planting 5# this year and was just wondering if I would be selling my left over seeds to bigger growers if individuals didn't snatch them up? Thanks for the info... Joe

Sangrower,
So your plants are producing a lot of seed I take it. Just curious how many lbs of seed you getting off your plants and how many plants does it take to get that much seed on average. I understand if you do not want to answer that question due to security reasons.
Thanks,
Latt

Actually I have no seed, but I'm planting my first five pounds of seet this year. Just getting my ducks in a row and gathering info. So it will be 4 yrs before I have seed to sell.

5 pounds to start? I hope you get help, that seems like quite a bit to start out. It takes me around 8 hours to plant a pound, not including clearing the brush out of the area before I begin. I've been planting 3 pounds a year for the last couple years and I have a hard time finding the time to plant it. Then again my day job keeps me ridiculously busy.
